Alanna Miller is pleased to present Roz Lord, a self-titled exhibition featuring the artist’s popular Bat Series, as well as her newest body of work titled the Thinking Series.
Roz Lord paints playful imagery with an intimacy and textural quality that bears an uncanny likeness to that of Phillip Guston. Personal reflections of Lord's inner world flicker on the surface and become palpable in her bats and thinking heads. These lovable characters become the embodiment of Lord's psyche, and through fleshy acrylic paint their universal sentiments
are made available for the viewer to connect with. They function as a point of reflection for both the artist and the viewer, joining the artist's inner landscape with a wider, more universal realm of emotions.
The Bat Series began as a humble exercise each day before starting work in her studio as a set decoration professional in Santa Barbara, CA.
“The Bats are my studio companions keeping me company throughout the day’s work. Sometimes I’ll paint them giving me a flower or reflecting back however happy, tired, or excited I am feeling at the moment.”
This series has become a darling in the global art market since the artist first shared them online in 2020. Lord has exhibited them in galleries within the US, as well as internationally in Germany and Spain.
Lord’s newest work is her Thinking Series, which builds on the artist's desire to look inward and explore her process -- she is thinking about painting and painting about thinking.
About the Artist
Roz Lord is a California-based artist. She combines playful imagery with her delightfully textural application of paint.
In addition to her practice as an independent painter, Lord has had a long successful career in set decoration, painting large- scale landscapes and settings for theaters and opera houses across California. Only recently has the artist stepped away from her commercial work in set-dec to realize her Bat series, which has become a sensational darling in the global art market. Lord has now had exhibitions within the US as well as internationally in Germany and Spain.
About Alanna Miller
With over ten years of experience as an art dealer working with private collectors and corporate hospitalities, Alanna Miller is opening a new gallery space at 230 Mulberry Street in New York City, bringing her art advisory expertise to the storefront. The gallery will function as a dynamic, thoughtful space dedicated to emerging art.
Alanna Miller received her MA in Modern and Contemporary Art and the Market from Christie's Education in New York. She was sales assistant to blue chip art advisor Kim Heirston and Sales Director of Artemisa Gallery in New York City, specializing in emerging and contemporary Latin American art. Following her time with Artemisa, she spent several years in the specialized business of fine art licensing with Bridgeman Images. Alanna Miller brings a uniquely and carefully honed perspective into the gallery.
